Dagen - 29 & 30 October 2005 (Sat / Sun) - Amsterdam Expo XXI
Masters of
Modding Contest & Showcase is organised by Hardware.info
and NYGL.com (exclusive European
partner of AC Ryan) in The Netherlands during the Hardware.info Dagen
exhibition in Amsterdam 28-30 October 2005. AC Ryan is proud to be
sponsor of this brave new event that boldly breaks many new grounds
and sets many 1st. We hope this event will be a preview of what more
is to come in the modding scene in Netherlands as well as countries
where modders are actively modding with AC Ryan (without the modders
there's no event!). Enjoy!
Thanks to everyone who came to support the Masters of Modding
Contest & Showcase.
Thanks too to all the 3 teams - ModHeAdz.com, Sofkenijn.cpm ft.
Ribbi.be and Babetech.de - for the hardwork and great profesional
spirit during the live modding. The Masters of Modding Contest pioneers
the concept of "speedmodding" - where time management,
decision on designs to that maximise effects with minimum time,
entertainment and "eye-candy" factors, working under pressure,
working in fixed / limited environment - these are all essential
factors in developing a pro / semi-pro modding community. And the
3 teams truly showed their high professional standards - truly the
Masters of Modding.
While speedmodding compacts modding into a compact package for
the public to peek into the world of modding (imagine the general
public sifting through months and months of worklog?), it is still
important for the modding community to capture the imagination of
the public with high profile mods from months- / year-long projects.
That's where the Masters of Modding Showcase comes in - much much
thanks to all the Masters of Modders - Robbert Stoeppels, _ferry_,
mydogisgone, Ediejo, RAG.Bitchie - for all their super effort in
supporting the Masters of Modding Showcase and being there to explain
and promote modding to the public.
A round of applause to the organisers of the Masters of Modding
- Hardware.info, NYGL.com - as well as the organisers of Hardware.info
- Hardware.info, TE2 (Telegraaf Expomedia Events), HUB Utigevers
- for the very well organised event.
AC Ryan will continue supporting and promoting both worklog-modding
and speedmodding - yes, there's gonna be more different variations
of speedmodding contests - we see speedmodding contests as the off-line
"real-life events" brothers of worklog contests. Hope
to see you guys around both online and offline - keep modding (with
AC Ryan)!!
Team Babetech (or so-called “The Germans”) gambled big
with the wheels and sadly they paid the price – under the
limited conditions (incl. missing parts left at home) and time constraints,
the wheel was a shade of its intended glory. Strategically they
went for the “one major attention” – the one grand
idea that wows all. You must have seen those… mods where you
just stared at that one feature and forgot about the rest, or that
the rest of the mod simply did not matter. The comments on the forum
speak for itself – it’s all about the wheels. Imagine
if they had managed pull off the motorized wheel mod and that casing
would be zipping up and down the hall. Would you have cared what
shape the side window is?
Team Soefkenijn’s (aka “The Belgians”) strategy
seems to have paid off the best in terms of getting attention. Keep
it simple, use non-standard shapes, use contrasting colors (green
on black always jumps out at you), repeating color scheme and pattern
theme. In short, to maximize the impact on the eye. A sure sign
of their experience in modding at lanparty workshops. A round of
applause to the Soefkenijn team too for improvising with “theelicht
voetjes” (yes those casing feet are made from "tealight
holders") when they saw ModHeAdz doing the same acryl feet
they were planning to do – cool that they adapted so we dont
have the same mods ;)
Team ModHeAdz (“The Dutch”) mod has the most details
– that’s where they spent most of the time. I believe
it’s because both modders are pros in worklog-modding –
extensive modding spread over months with great attention to details.
They both share the style of modding where the more you look the
more features you discover. So that’s the case with this mod
– lots of details that looked better in real life than in
the photos L. The mirror mod, the acryl mod on the graphic card,
the meshx panels behind the acryl Dutch flag.
3 teams, 3 different styles, 3 different strategies. Our choice?
For the guts to go for something extravagant, the Germans are winners.
For the highly professional strategy, the Belgians are winners.
For the details & features, the Dutch are winners. Wouldn’t
it be interesting if we could put all 3 teams together?
In conclusion, the Masters of Modding is a show of master skills
and the positive attitude to go for something new and exciting -
the friendly competition and good spirit between the teams was much
more important than the winning - that's the underlying signature
of all "Masters events" be it tennis, snooker, bowling,
to name a few - the joy of watching the masters compete in a positive
and inspiring atmosphere. To add that touch of excitement for the
public... go vote for your favorite at Hardware.info forums - the
Reader's
Choice Award.
